OECD Ministerial Meeting that brought together Trade authorities ends

Today ended the Meeting of the Ministerial Council of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). The Chilean delegation was headed in person by the Undersecretary of International Economic Relations, Rodrigo Yáñez. Foreign Minister Andrés Allamand and the Minister of Finance, Rodrigo Cerda, also participated virtually.


The OECD Ministerial Council Meeting (MCM) brings together the Ministers of Economy, Finance and Trade of the member countries of the Organization. This year it was chaired by the United States under the slogan "Shared Values: Building a Green and Inclusive Future."

On the occasion, Undersecretary Yáñez participated in the session on Trade where he reaffirmed the country's commitment to sustainable and inclusive trade. "Trade policy is an instrument to react to the crisis, give resilience to trade and the future economic recovery, especially of our SMEs," added Undersecretary Yáñez.

Later, a ceremony was held to formalize Mexico's entry into the Global Gender and Trade Agreement (GTAGA), made up of Canada, Chile and New Zealand, and which aims to improve women's access to International Trade. The instance was attended by Chile's Undersecretary Rodrigo Yáñez, the Canadian Minister of Commerce, Mary Ng, and the New Zealand Minister of Commerce, Damien O'Connor; and for Mexico from the Undersecretary of Commerce, Luz María de la Mora.

The authority of the Undersecretariat of International Economic Relations (SUBREI) also participated in the Ottawa Group Meeting, this is a group of 14 members of the World Trade Organization (WTO) that seek to promote international trade. Authorities from Australia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Korea, Japan, Kenya, Mexico, New Zealand, Norway, Singapore, Switzerland, the European Union and the United Kingdom addressed the main challenges facing international trade today and their importance for economic recovery . The WTO Director, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, also participated in the event.

Bilateral

As on the first day of the MCM, the Sub-Secretary of SUBREI took advantage of the occasion to hold bilateral meetings with important commercial partners, such as the one held with the Vice Minister of Commerce of Peru, Diego Llosa.

The authority of the Undersecretariat also met with the Vice Minister of Commerce of Japan, Naoshi Hirose, as well as with the Minister of Commerce of New Zealand, Damien O'Connor. In these bilateral meetings, bilateral economic-trade relations were discussed.

Finally, Undersecretary Yáñez held a meeting with Mary Ng, Minister of Commerce of Canada. Both authorities stressed that this year marks 80 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries. A milestone in these relations is the signing, 25 years ago, of the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between the two countries.
